Oyo Registrants Complain Over Slow Delivery Process of PVCs
Registrants in Oyo state have complained about the slow delivery process in the collection of their Permanent Voters Cards at the ward level.
Many of the registrants who trooped to Ward 8 at Ojoo under Akinyele Local Government in Ibadan said, it has been very difficult collecting their PVCs on time despite getting to the ward early.
Mr. Udoh, a registrant told The Pendulum Media that he has been asked to come back in a week to collect his card as it is not ready.
“I have just been asked to come back for my card by next week after wasting so much time here. The INEC official who attended to me said they are still expecting more cards. I am tired”. He said.
Meanwhile, it was observed that some pregnant women and nursing mothers were first attended to before others.
Another distraught registrant, among others, mentioned that she made a photocopy of her slip when she discovered that the information on it was fading off.
“I made a copy of my slip when the information was fading off but when I got to this place, I was told there is a number at the back of the small slip, how could I have known?”
However, there was a huge number of registrants at the center and many complained about how disorganized and uncoordinated the collection had been.
Earlier on Tuesday, INEC Head of Voter Education in Oyo state, Mrs. Rosemary Adeniyi disclosed that over Nine hundred and forty-seven thousand PVCs are yet to be collected.
She had said the essence of the distribution of PVCs at registration centers was to move it closer to the people to allow them access to the collection seamlessly.
“Not enough people are coming out to collect their PVCs, Nine hundred and forty-seven thousand, Four hundred and Sixty-two, as of 10th of January, 2023.” She said
Moreover, Mrs. Adeniyi’s declaration seems to be in contrast to what is been experienced physically at the wards.
Many of the registrants hope that better skillful officials are appointed by INEC to ensure the smooth collection of their cards and also to exercise their franchise in the forthcoming elections.
