Oyo Commercial Banks Deny Citizens Access to New Naira Notes, Residents Complain
Following the directive of The Central Bank of Nigeria that commercial banks in the country should commence circulation of the newly redesigned naira notes through Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) nationwide, most banks in Ibadan are not complying significantly due to insufficient cash outflow of the new notes.
According to a report conducted on Tuesday and made available to The Pendulum Media, some banks in Ibadan report that bank customers who were expectant while withdrawing from the automated teller Machines, ATM were disappointed as the new naira notes were hardly dispensed.
However, some customers who reacted to the unpleasant development revealed that due to the scarcity of the new notes, acceptance and demand for the notes have risen while others doubt the authenticity of the physical appearance.
Citizens in Ibadan who complained thereby appealed to the government to ensure urgent and wider circulation of the new currency to enhance hitch-free transactions as the deadline for the use of the old note approaches.
