October Hunger Protest: Protesters Defy Tight Security In Lagos
Reports reaching The Pendulum Media reveal that in Lagos State, protesters assembled on Tuesday morning, at the Ikeja Underbridge to make their grievances known to the federal government.
The protest is taking place as the country is also marking the 2024 Independence anniversary day.
The protesters are seen carrying placards such as ” endbadgovernancenow” “revolution now”, “Reverse electricity tariff now”, “Reduce petrol price to N197 per litre; end scarcity”, and “Profit soars while people suffer.” among others as they chant solidarity songs.
Also present on the protest ground are security personnel, including policemen, led by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Ishola, Officials of the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
Recall, in August, Nigerians stormed the streets in different parts of the country to express their disapproval on the growing hardship experienced in the Tinubu- led administration.
Spearheading the protest are some civil society groups, including the Take It Back Movement, the Education Rights Campaign, the Coalition for Revolution, and the Socialist Workers League.
In a later development, Former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, Omoyele Sowore, now also graced the protest ground with his presence.
The protest marks the second time in two months that angry Nigerians would hit the streets in disapproval of the hardship in the country.
