President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday, said that he supported the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) decision to introduce new designs and replace high-value Naira notes.
He stated that the country will benefit much from doing this in a statement made by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu.
In a Hausa interview with renowned journalists Halilu Ahmed Getso and Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai for Tambari TV on Nilesat which is to be aired on Wednesday morning, PMB pointed out that the CBN’s arguments had persuaded him that the economy would benefit from a decline in inflation, currency forgery, and the amount of extra cash in circulation.
He claimed that the scheduled three-month transition period to the new notes is not brief.
According to him, ”People with illicit money buried under the soil will have a challenge with this but workers, businesses with legitimate incomes will face no difficulties at all.”
The statement further said that President Buhari in the interview, also addressed issues of food security and national security, among others.
