New Minimum Wage: FG, Labour Have Negotiated In Good Fate– Tinubu Tells Nigerians
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has informed the country during his democracy day address that both the federal government and labour have reached an agreement on the minimum wage that will serve for at least five years from now.
Tinubu stated on Wednesday that the new minimum wage bill will soon be sent to the National Assembly.
Recall, that the organised labour embarked on a nationwide strike last week Monday and shut down all sectors of the economy to press in their demands.
The strike was then suspended the next day following the continued negotiations between the federal government and labour.
Also, the National Minimum Wage committee submitted its report days ago to the President. The report, revealing that the Federal Government proposed N62,000 minimum wage and Organised Labour proposed N250,000.
While Governors and Organised Private Sector proposed N57,000 and N62,000.
Despite the back and forth on the wage, President Tinubu in his address noted that his government did not crackdown on Organised Labour as the dictatorship government would have done, but rather, now have an agreement.
He said, “We have negotiated in good fate and open arms with organised labor on a national minimum wage, we will soon send our executive bill to the National Assembly to enshrine what has been agreed upon in the next five years or less,”.
