NDLEA Operatives Arrest Man, Woman with Cocaine at Airports
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, on Sunday, announced the arrest of two persons found to have carried cocaine at two different airports.
According to the NDLEA, a 67-year-old man identified as Chukwuemeka Clement had allegedly ingested 100 wraps of cocaine when he was nabbed on Tuesday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, NAIA, Abuja.
NDLEA in a statement on Sunday said Clement was discovered
during the inward clearance of passengers on Ethiopian Airlines flight 951 from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, following a body scan, which revealed multiple pellets in his stomach.
The Agency’s director of media and advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed that the suspect excreted a total of 100 wraps of cocaine weighing 2.195 kilograms in four excretions while under observation.
Clement in his statement, claimed to have spent 30 years in Brazil, Ethiopia, and Thailand, while he was once married but lost his wife without a child; a reason he decided to go into drug trafficking was to raise enough money to marry a new wife and start life afresh,” Babafemi said.
NDLEA operatives, in a similar event, noted they arrested a 45-year-old woman, Bilkisu Mohammed Bello, at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano, while preparing to board a Saudia Airlines flight to Saudi Arabia.
Bello also confessed to NDLEA during an interview on the location where pellets of cocaine given to her to swallow before her flight was kept.
The director, Babafemi further mentioned in the statement that the woman led the NDLEA operatives to a house in the Farawa area of Kano where 52 wraps of the illicit substance with a total weight of 767 grams were recovered.
