Massive Looting At Hand Says INC Over Single 6 -Year Tenure Of Presidency Bill
The Igbo National Council, INC, has faulted the call for a single term of six years for the President and governors in Nigeria.
Speaking to newsmen in Owerri on Thursday, the INC President, Chilos Godsent explained that such a bill
would encourage massive looting in office.
Aside from the rejection, the group hinged on seeking for the removal of the immunity clause from the constitution made available for the office of the President, Vice President, Governor, and Deputy Governor as the constitution goes through the amendment process.
“The Igbo National Council INC Worldwide has critically x-rayed the proposal by the G-35 members of the Federal House of Representative to propose a single six years tenure for the President and Governors in the ongoing Constitution Amendment by the National Assembly.
“The INC condemns that proposal in its entirety as it will encourage massive corruption in the Governance System in Nigeria. Against this backdrop, we would like the National Assembly to amend the constitution to provide for the Presidential election to be held separately, and for the Governorship to hold separately on different dates with the elections of legislators as this will encourage healthy competition and reduce rigging.
“INC therefore calls on the National Assembly to use the opportunity of the ongoing Constitution Amendment to expunge the Immunity Clause for the office of the President, Vice President, Governor, and Deputy Governor.” Godsent said.
