Man Almost Lynched for Alleged Phone Theft in Oyo

A man named Saheed was accused of Phone theft and almost got lynched in the Araromi area of Oyo town.
According to The Pendulum Media’s Correspondent, Abdulrahman; an unusual gathering was observed around the Araromi area of Oyo town on Sunday.
He said eyewitnesses claimed they saw the man picked the phone from a Point of Sales Operator (POS); adding that as soon as he was noticed, took to his heels, and ran into an uncompleted building where he hid for 15 minutes.
A search team that was called to fish him out confirmed that he laid flat in the attic of the uncompleted building until he was eventually dragged down.

The Mob, nevertheless, expressed that his suspicious attitude already affirmed he stole the phone, hence a reason to set him ablaze.
However, an elder in the community( name withheld) pleaded with the mob to avoid jungle justice and hand him over to the Police or the local security agency, Amotekun for proper investigation.

The accused, Saheed, who in a short interview with our correspondent, disclosed that he is not a thief but a bird catcher and came from the Sabo area of the town gave a contrary location in another dialogue with him; saying he came from Ibadan.
He said in Yoruba; “N kin sole, eye ni mo wa mu. E joor, a ti Ibadan ni mo ti wa” -“I am not a thief; Please, I came from Ibadan to catch birds.” [translated]
Although, he was found with a small sac of millet which he claimed he uses to lure birds aside the phone which was yet to be discovered.

Many claimed he must have hidden it somewhere during the chase. His accusers were later told not to set him ablaze because of the peculiarity of the Ramadan season.
In order, to verify if he told the truth, an elder together with some youths told him to take them to his house at Sabo, threatening that if he lied, he would then be handed over to the Police.
