Makinde’s Wife Challenges Stakeholders On Quality Education For Girls As Govt Honours Best Students In WASSCE
At the event organised to commemorate the year 2023 International Day of Girl Child, Engineer Mrs.Tamunominini Makinde, wife of the Oyo State governor, on Wednesday, utilised the moment to advocate the need for girls to be exposed to quality education.
Engineer Mrs.Tamunominini Makinde, stated that quality education will protect their rights, prepare them to be leaders, and empower them for the future.
This, as the state government honoured best students in the 2022 West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
InsideOyo.com reports that the students, Omirinde Khadijat Bolatito (Oyo North), Oladeji Doluwamu Oyindamola (Oyo South), Olaniyi Rofiat Oyewunmi (Oyo Central) were picked from the three Senatorial districts in the state.
The event was partnered by Kimberly Clark Ltd and Medplus Pharmaceutical Ltd.
Mrs Makinde added that quality education can open doors for girl child and help them to make informed decisions that will make them stand out in society.
She said: “Educating a girl child is a driving force for positive change in their lives, education will give them confidence to fight for their rights and inspire them to become whatever they want.
“Let’s encourage our girls to be dedicated to their studies, parents, teachers, guardians must support girls education either formal or Informal.
“When we protect and educate our child, they can achieve their potential and become great in their respective fields, this event is to tell our girl child that they can have equal opportunity and right as their counterpart.”
While speaking to the girls, Mrs. Makinde urged them to always speak against anyone who violate their rights, adding that it is a collective responsibility to protect the girls from any form violence.
“Study hard and protect yourself, you can be great in future by committing to your studies, take up challenges and never relent, acquire quality education either formal or Informal.
She, however, commended the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde for always priotising welfare of girl child in the state, saying the effort of the governor on welfare of people generally in the state cannot be overemphasised.
Dignitaries at the event include wife of the deputy governor, Mrs Ajibola Lawal, Commissioner for Education, Prof Salihu Adelabu, Commissioner for Youth and Sport, Miss Wasilat Adegoke, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi among others.
The event also witnessed distribution of gift items to students from different secondary schools across the state.
