Breaking: Former UI DVC Prof. Adigun Agbaje, kidnapped as Police React
Following the kidnap that occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Friday night, former Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academics of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Adigun Agbaje has been reportedly kidnapped along with other unfortunate travellers who journeyed on the said road.
News reaching The Pendulum Media has it that his family has been approached by the kidnappers, who are now demanding N50m in ransom
However, the Oyo state police command has reacted to the abduction of the travellers.
In a statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso noted that the said occurrence happened on Friday 28/10/2022 at about 1835HRS, while the operatives of the Command attached to Toll-Gate Division received information about sporadic gunshots heard along the Dominion University end of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
In the process of prevailing and averting additional pandemonium from what was an abduction scenario, Osifeso said, an officer assigned to the command paid the ultimate price while another was severely hurt and is currently responding to treatment.
He claimed that four abandoned vehicles and gunfire shells had been recovered from the scene.
The state PRO added that the Deputy Commissioner in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department(CID) is leading the Charge in Full-Scale Scientific and Technological Aided Investigations to elucidate the circumstances that gave rise to the incident, which was ordered by Police Commissioner CP Adebowale Williams.
Meanwhile, Prof. Agbaje, who is now on sabbatical at Olabisi Onabanjo University, is now in the kidnappers’ den. According to a report by the Foundation for Investigative Journalism, he was on his way to Ibadan at around 6 o’clock on Friday when kidnappers stopped him near Sat Guru Maharaji Garden
A source in UI told FIJ that the kidnappers “eliminated some officers around the site” before fleeing with their victims.
