JUST IN: Why d handcuffs? Twitter User Asks Hundeyin After Kuti Turns Himself In
A Twitter user on Monday queried the Lagos State Police PRO, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, about the need to wear Kuti a pair of handcuffs after he turned himself in.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin had announced the voluntary surrender of Seun Kuti to the police force on Twitter.
The Police PRO released pictures of Kuti in handcuffs tagged; “SERIOUS ASSAULT ON POLICE OFFICER: SEUN KUTI TURNS SELF IN”.
He wrote:
“Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, in the early hours of today turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, in company of his lawyer and family representative. He has been placed under arrest.
“…in line with the law. The Command appreciates the public for their concern and assures that the ongoing investigation will be detailed, transparent, professionally pursued; and justice will be manifestly served for all parties involved.”
But it seems, Hundeyin’s post did not go well with a Twitter user who queried the police boss on why Kuti had to be cuffed when he surrendered willingly.
He wrote; Why d handcuffs
However, Hundeyin gave an immediate response saying, the law permits them to cuff any suspect who tends to evade justice.
“Because the law empowers us to place on cuffs any suspect who has shown propensity for violence and propensity for evading justice.”
Ayoappeal added: “Handcuffs when when he showed up himself? Which propensity of violence are you talking about? And what’s the photoshoot for?
“We understand the police have a nack for humiliating citizens.”
Recall, the Afro beats musician, Seun Kuti on Saturday evening assaulted a police officer in uniform as captured in a video.
In another development, Kuti claimed he slapped the police officer because the officer had threatened to kill him and his entire family.
Earlier, he also boasted in a video that he had slapped many other police officers shortly before his eventual surrender.
