JUST IN: Nigerian Conjoined Twins Hassana and Hassina Survived 14-hour Surgery in Saudi Arabia
Kaduna conjoined twins birthed
on January 12, 2023 have been separated successfully by a team of Saudi Surgeons after a 14 – hour procedure on Thursday.
The conjoined twins shared an abdomen, pelvis, liver, intestines, and urinary and reproductive systems.
Official spokesperson to President Buhari, Garba Shehu wrote and shared videos of the procedure on his Twitter page.
“The operation has finally ended and the twins have been separated successfully. Alhamdulillah.” He said.
Dr. Al-Rabeeah, the Saudi medical team lead noted before the surgery that the procedure would include eight stages.
Nigeria’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Yahaya Lawal, however, thanked the custodian of the two holy mosques, the crown prince, and the entire leadership of the Kingdom for the humanitarian gesture; hoping for a successful finishing of the remaining stages
“We understand a number of stages have been successfully carried out and look forward to successfully finishing the remaining stages.” He said.
Saudi Arabia’s humanitarian initiatives have previously assisted with 130 cases of conjoined twins from 23 countries over 33 years, and Hassana and Hassina will be the 56th set of twins to be separated as a result.
