JUST-IN: Court Removes RCCG Pastor, Gandhi as Soun of Ogbomoso, Orders Fresh Selection Process
The Oyo State High Court sitting in Ogbomosho has nullified the emergence of the new Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye.
Pastor Ghandi was on September 8, 2023, announced as the new Soun by the Oyo State government.
Initially, one of the contestants for the stool, Prince Kabir Laoye approached the court challenging the selection process that brought Ghandi as the new Soun.
Due to the challenge, the Court had ordered the Oyo State government not to announce anybody as the new Soun pending the case before the court is resolved.
But the state government ignored the court order and announced Ghandi Laoye as the new Soun.
Prince Kabir Laoye said the process that brought about the emergence of Ghandi was faulty, seeking nullification of the emergence of the new Soun and pleading for a fresh selection process.
While delivering the judgement, Justice Adedokun said the selection process and emergence of Laoye were illegal.
The Judge, however, ordered Ogbomosho kingmakers to go back and start the fresh selection of the new king.
