Israel To Support Nigerian Women In Agriculture, Others

The State of Israel has expressed its willingness to engage Nigerian women and girls in diverse areas of agriculture, science, technology and capacity building in the area of textile among others.

This development follows the courtesy visit of Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman paid to the Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu at the State House, Abuja.

A statement by the Senior Special Assistant to Senator Tinubu on Media, Busola Kukoyi, stated that the ambassador lauded the various programmes of the First Lady in the areas of women empowerment, agriculture, youth and education, stressing that Nigeria is blessed with good land and climate.

He mentioned four aspects where the Israeli Government looks forward to collaborating with the Office of the First Lady to include science and technology which will see them opening 30 more innovation centers across the nation in addition to the one already operational in Abuja.

The Ambassador also revealed that the Israeli Government would set up computer classrooms to train girls who have been rescued after being trafficked.

Freeman informed Tinubu about the proposed Textile Arts Programme for young Nigerians, explaining that his country will be working with Israelis who will train them to improve on their skills.

“I have followed and seen your works. Obviously, you have been working on women empowerment. As an embassy, we are committed to that too, and we have a lot to offer in that area,”

“Under science and technology, we have a programme where we train young Nigerians for six months in entrepreneurship to help them develop programmes in manufacturing for the global markets — 50 percent of the trainees are women.” Freeman said

Responding, Senator Tinubu expressed appreciation for the proposed collaboration between the Israeli Government and her initiatives, noting that the key areas mentioned were the same areas of key interest to her.

The First Lady also affirmed that Nigeria will overcome whatever challenges it may have presently.

“With the cooperation and support from you, our foreign friends, which has been remarkable, we are on our way to greatness,” she said.
