Indefinite Strike Begins from October 3- NLC, TUC Tells Nigerians to Stockpile Foodstuffs
Two Labour centers, the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, of Nigeria have declared an indefinite strike beginning on October 3
This was disclosed by NLC President Joe Ajaero and the TUC, Festus Osifo after their separate Emergency National Executive Council, NEC, meeting in Abuja on Tuesday.
A communique read by the two Presidents disclosed that the indefinite strike was a result of the alleged insensitivity of the government to the plights of Nigerians as a result of the removal of petrol subsidy and continuous demonstration of unwillingness and complete lack of initiative.
Both labour unions, however, told Nigerians to prepare for the strike by stockpiling foodstuffs because the strike would shut down economic activities in the country.
Recall The Pendulum Media on Monday, reported that the Organised Private Sector of Nigeria
appealed to the Federal Government to do everything in their power to stop an indefinite strike from happening.
OPSN in a statement on Sunday pleaded with the Tinubu administration and the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, to come to a reasonable agreement.
According to OPSN, “The economic indicators are not good, and simply put, the economy cannot afford a nationwide strike at this time.”
It, however, seems nothing concrete
is been done to prevent the strike from happening.
