Award-winning Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Adiche has penned a profound birthday note to Labour Party’s presidential aspirant, Peter Obi.
Peter Obi who turned 61 a day ago, has continued to receive numerous congratulatory birthday messages from fans and supporters alike who believe that he is the right candidate to turn things around in Nigeria.
The ‘Half of a Yellow Sun’ author has shown her solidarity with the aspirant by remembering him in several ways. She remembers him as her ‘dearest Big Bro’ recounting all the beautiful memories she and her late parents had with him.
“I will never forget your kindness to my beloved parents. Thank you for the respect you showed them, for your many visits to Abba, where you gave to Daddy and Mummy the most precious gifts: your time and your attention…”
She also mentioned how Peter Obi has always been obsessed with the hope that Nigeria could be better.
“I remember how you regaled Daddy and Mummy with your stories until we started joking about your obsession with the “GDP of Malaysia.” But your obsession spoke of hope: your hope for Nigeria, your belief in what Nigeria could be. A belief that has always been practical, grounded in numbers and reality.”
Adiche could not help but expose how frugal Peter Obi is, remembering an occasion in New York, on how he was teased about the inexpensive hotel he stayed in, where he shrugged and said, “it’s just a place to sleep, why do I need to be in an expensive place?”
She noted how Peter Obi has been generous over the years, supporting hospitals, schools, and churches often without any form of publicity.
She concluded, by calling him her president and cannot wait for February 25th, 2023, when she will cast her vote for him and his running mate, Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed. “I call you our ‘big bro,’ and I cannot wait to call you ‘My President. I cannot wait for February 25, 2023, when I, with personal pride in you and with hope for what Nigeria can become, will cast my vote for you and your running mate, Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed.
