Glasgow 2024: Tobi Amusan, 4 Other Nigerian Athletes Secure Tickets
World 100m hurdles champion Tobi Amusan as well as four other Nigerian athletes have qualified for next year’s World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.
According to the entry standards published by World Athletics, Amusan secured her ticket via last week’s outdoor performance at the Tom Jones Invitational in Gainesville, Florida where she ran a time of 12.59 in the 100m hurdles.
Sprinters Rosemary Chukwuma and Favour Ofili, who, unlike Amusan also secured their qualifications in the NCAA Indoor circuit.
Both ran new lifetime bests to scale through with Chukwuma speeding to a historic 7.09 seconds in the 60m event to become the seventh Nigerian to break 7.10 in the event while Ofili ran 7.14 to scale through to the Championships.
Favour Ashe and Ezekiel Nathaniel have also booked the ticket to Glasgow through their qualification at the NCAA indoor circuit.
Ashe’s 6.51 seconds run at the semifinal stage of the 2023 NCAA indoor championships in New Mexico ensured his qualification while Nathaniel’s time of 45.69 in the 400m race earned him a passage to his first World Indoor championships.
Meanwhile, as the qualification window will remain open until February 2024; more Nigerian athletes are expected to book their tickets to Glasgow.
