G5 Governors Rally Support for Makinde, Flags Off 2nd Term Campaign in Ibadan
The aggrieved governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) known as the G-5 have on Thursday declared their unflinching support for one of them, Engr. Seyi Makinde as he formally flags off his re-election campaign in Ibadan.
According to reports, the four governors which include; Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu; Benue State, Samuel Ortom and Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi arrived on Wednesday to honor Gov. Seyi Makinde with their presence.
The event which took place at the ancient Mapo hall in Ibadan, was jam-packed with party loyalists from all the 33 Local Government areas in the state, as operatives tried to control the crowd.
Governor Seyi Makinde in his remarks expressed his appreciation to the people and party faithful for entrusting the destiny of the state under his care; assuring that more developmental projects and programs will be witnessed in the state if reelected on March 11, 2023, for another term of four years.
Makinde, who proudly celebrates his administration for geometrically improving the state’s internally generated revenue from about N1.7 billion to N3.8 billion as at end of November 2022 among other achievements, promised to do more for the people of the state.
Moreover, the leader of the G-5, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state told party faithful that Makinde will subsequently communicate the position of the five governors to them; thus keeping mum on their preferred candidate for the 2023 Presidency.
Wike’s statement came against the expectation of party faithful and supporters who had thought he was going to reveal the G-5’s collective position on the party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
Members of the G-5 Governors in their separate submissions commended Governor Makinde for fulfilling his 2019 election promises to the people by transforming the state in terms of economy and infrastructure.
PDP stalwarts and interestingly, members of the Atiku/Okowa presidential campaign organization including former Minister of State for FCT, Chief Jumoke Akinjide, and other leaders from the southwest zone of the party all attended the event in Ibadan.
