Fubara Gifts N100,000 Christmas Bonus for Civil Servants, Receives Praise
Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara has approved a sum of N100,000 for civil servants in the State to celebrate Christmas.
The act has drawn members of the organised labour in Rivers State to laud the Governor for according to them in a statement, he has broken the record set by the administration of former Governor Peter Odili, who gave the sum of N20,000 as a Christmas bonus to civil servants during his tenure.
The organised labour in a statement issued in Port Harcourt yesterday, thereby called on civil servants to support the Fubara-led administration for this gesture.
The statement was signed by the chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Alex Agwanwor, his Trade Union Congress (TUC) counterparts, and the Joint Negotiation Council (JNC), Comrade Ikechukwu Onyefuru and Comrade Chuku Emecheta, respectively.
The statement reads in part: “It is important to mention that no other administration gave Christmas bonus to Rivers State civil servants after His Excellency, Dr Peter Odili until now.
“We call on workers in Rivers State to continue to pray for peace in the state during this time of political crisis. We wish to state that with this kind gesture, our governor has further proven himself as the workers’ governor.
“Hence, we warn all political detractors to desist from distracting His Excellency as any further attack on His Excellency will be treated as an attack on Rivers’ workers.
“We reiterate the unalloyed support of workers to the Governor Siminalayi Fubara-led administration.
“Finally, we urge the good people of Rivers State to be security conscious during this yuletide as we pray for God’s favour and prosperity upon Rivers State.”
