‘Even The Almighty America Records Crime On A Daily Basis’- Akpabio On Kebbi Schoolgirls’ Abduction

The Nigerian Senate President, Godswill Akpabio on Tuesday made comments on the recent abduction of the 25 school girls in Kebbi State, saying, crime is all over including “the almighty America”.

Recall, the attack on the school girls was carried out by gunmen around 4:00 a.m who engaged police officers on duty in a fierce gun battle, killed the vice principal and left with 25 girls as disclosed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar Kotarkoshi.

The Senate President’s remarks were made during plenary
during a heated debate on the killing of Brigadier-General Uba Musa in Borno State and the abduction of the schoolgirls.

During the debate with the other senators, he stressed that crime was a global challenge, including in powerful nations like the United States of America.

Adding that the only solution to the crime rate is to minimise it while stating that the almighty America records crime on a daily basis.

His remarks critics say sounded like a justification for the continuing wave of violent crimes.

He said, “We sympathise deeply with the families affected, but we must remember that Nigeria is a very large country.

“It is not even possible to deploy one policeman to each polling unit during elections. Our security agencies are overstretched and find themselves in places they shouldn’t ordinarily be,”.

“There is no society without crime. Even the almighty America records crime on a daily basis. But we must continue to do our best to minimise it,”.
