Eid Al Adha 2023: Dhul-Hijjah Crescent Moon Sighted in Saudi Arabia
The crescent moon for the 2023 Hajj has been sighted in Saudi Arabia.
This development is followed by the statement the Sultan of Sokoto,
Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar made on Saturday when he asked all Muslims to look out for the Crescent moon on Sunday.
Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court had also announced that the first day of the month will fall on Monday, June 19.
This, however, means for those undergoing the holy pilgrimage, the day of Arafah will be observed on Tuesday, June 27 while the Eid Al Adha celebration, is on Wednesday, June 28.
Although, as of the time of filing this report, the Sultan is yet to make any announcement in Nigeria.
The UAE is also expected to make an announcement about the crescent sighting today.
Reports have it that some Gulf countries, the UAE and Saudi Arabia are known to mark Eid ul Fitr and Eid ul Adha on the same days.
Dhul-Hijjah is the 12th and the last month in the Islamic calendar in which Muslims perform annual pilgrimage (Hajj) and celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir festival.
In the Sultan’s statement on Saturday, he prayed Allah will help all Muslims to discharge their religious duty.
