Connie Chiume, ‘Black Panther’ Actress Dies In Johannesburg

Renowned South African actress Connie Chiume who featured in the Blockbuster movie, Black Panther is reported dead.

According to a statement released by her family members via her Instagram handle on Tuesday, Connie died on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at Garden City Hospital in Johannesburg, aged 72.

The family, however, requested privacy as they mourn their loss.

“The Chiume Family regrets to inform you of the passing of the internationally acclaimed award-winning actress Connie Chiume.

“Connie Chiume, 72, passed on at Garden City Hospital today August 6, 2024. The family will communicate further details and ask for privacy during this difficult period.” The statement read.

Following the announcement, Kate Henshaw, Nigerian Nollywood actress, reacted to the movievstar’s death, saying South Africa has lost a beautiful soul.

She wrote, “NO! Rest in peace Mum Connie. You were deeply loved & appreciated. My condolences to South Africa; they have lost a beautiful soul. Sleep well, my friend!”

The South African Government also took to its official X handle to mourn the actress, paying tribute to her family and colleagues.

“Our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of multi-award winning and legendary actress Connie Chiume. Her outstanding work will always be remembered,” the South African Government said.

Chiume’s career spanned several decades, during which she became a household name through her roles in popular TV shows such as Mohlolohadi, Yizo Yizo, Zone 14, Rhythm City, Housekeepers, and Grassroots.

She also made a mark internationally with her role in the Black Panther and its sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
