A court in the United Kingdom has found Former Nigerian Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and his immediate family guilty of organ trafficking, in the first verdict of its kind under the Modern Slavery Act.

Ekweremadu’s immediate family involving his 56- year- old wife, Beatrice, 25-year-old daughter, Sonia, together with a 51- year-old doctor, Dr. Obinna Obeta were all convicted of the crime.

According to the UK Guardian, they
were found guilty of facilitating the travel of a young man to Britain with a view to his exploitation after a six-week trial at the Old Bailey.

They criminally conspired to bring the 21-year-old Lagos street trader to London to exploit him for his kidney, the jury found.
