Book Reading: Nigerian Poet, Prof. Adeoti Hosts ANA Monthly Literary Feast in Ibadan
Seasoned Nigerian Poet, Professor Gbemisola Adeoti has again in the words of American entrepreneur and writer, Walt Disney, dug out more treasure in books on Monday, May 1st, 2023.
The monthly book reading took place at Practical Theatre Room, Faculty of Arts of the University of Ibadan under
the auspice of the Association of Nigerian Authors, (ANA) Oyo state chapter.
Prof. Adeoti who is the ANA-OYO Chef for April 2023, read from his collections of poems entitled, “Stoning the Wind” and also prefaced the reading with a brief remark on Poetry and the Gulf of Silence.
During the reading, Adeoti noted he drew inspiration from Professor Femi Osofisan’s work and personality; adding that Professor Mourinho had a stake in the first reading of his “Naked Soles” collection.
He said:
“My first reading in Oyo state ANA was in 2005 and by that time, my collection, “Naked Soles” was just released and we had that reading at Educare and Professor Mourinho was the brain behind that.”
Reacting to Prof. Adeoti’s reading, one of the academic guests, Prince Tunde Odunlade stated, “Art is an instrument to having a sane society”, thereby urging the general public and all learners of literature not to give up on art.
Present at the event are Prof. Femi Osofisan, a Medical Doctor/ Poet, Dr.Tony Mourinho, Prince Tunde Odunlade, members of ANA, students, as well as others who are passionate about reading and gaining more knowledge.
Gbemisola Adeoti is a Nigerian academic and poet. He is a professor of literature in the English Department at Obafemi Awolowo University.
