Oyo Assembly Passes Persons with Disability Amendment Bill to Law
The Oyo State Persons Living with Disability (Amendment) Bill, 2022 was approved by the Oyo State House of Assembly and is now law.
The bill was passed after the Committee on Women Affairs and Social Inclusion’s Chairman, Hon. Wumi Oladeji, delivered its report and the committee of the whole house deliberated it clause by clause during Thursday’s plenary session.
It was a private member’s bill that Hon. Oladeji sponsored, and it was approved as law in 2016 during the 8th Assembly.
The establishment of an agency for individuals with disabilities, which would be run by the state governor, was one of the major aspects of the bill that had been amended by the House, according to the lawmaker, who represents the state constituency of Ogbomoso North.
Hon. Oladeji went on to say that the Law requires staff agencies to employ 50 percent individuals with disabilities.
The law, according to the member, also enables reserved parking spaces and seating facilities inside buses and other public transit vehicles for the convenience of those with disabilities.
