Aheregbe Festival: Ondo Monarch Orders Closure of Markets, Shops, Exempts Pharmacies

Ondo Monarch, Oba (Dr) Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, has ordered the closure of all markets and shops in Akure, the State capital for the forthcoming Aheregbe Festival on Friday exempting pharmacies and patent shops.

The Monarch, Oba Aladetoyinbo stated this in a statement issued through his chief press secretary, Michael Adeyeye, noting that the closure of markets and shops on Friday is an age-long tradition in observance of the annual traditional festival, Aheregbe.

The Deji of the Akure Kingdom, however, told market women and shop owners not to trade or open shops under any guise, urging them to kindly comply with the directive.

He also clarified that only pharmacies and patent medicine stores will be allowed to open during the festival.

According to the statement, “pharmacy shops and patent medicine stores are exempted from the closure of their shops during the festival. Moreover, the festival will not in any way restrict both human and vehicular movement.”
