Abuja: Police Fire Tear Gas At Sowore, Others Over Demands On Nnamdi Kanu’s Freedom
The Nigerian Police and military officers in Abuja has fired shots at protesters demanding for the release of Nnamdi Kanu; reports say.
Kanu who is the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra was first arrested in 2015 on treason charges, released on bail was re-arrested in Kenya in 2021 and was later extradited to Nigeria under controversial circumstances.
The embattled Biafra leader who is now facing terrorism charges has attracted Omoyele Sowore, a human rights activist to lead a #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest.
However, the Nigeria Police Force had warned the organizers against staging any protest near the Villa.
The Pendulum Media, however gathered that at about 7:00am on Monday morning, the security operatives arrived early to disperse the protesters with gun shots and tear gas with reports of the activist fleeing the scene, fearing his life.
The protesters had intended to march to Aso Rock Villa to demand the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra.
