Abuja Court Remands Man Over Alleged Car Theft
A 34-year-old man, Ridioam Rasheed from Ogun State has been remanded at Dei-Dei Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Monday for allegedly stealing a car.
Daily Post reports that after Rasheed was charged with criminal breach of trust and theft by the police, he pleaded guilty to the charges but was directed by Judge, Saminu Suleiman to be remanded in the correctional facility at Suleja until Jan 5, 2024, for sentence.
The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Chinedu Ogada, had earlier informed the court that the complainant, Kenneth Eze, of Niger, reported the matter at the Zuba Police Station on Oct. 6.
Mr. Ogada stated that the complainant alleged that on the same date, the defendant came to the Zuba spare parts market and pretended to buy a car worth N1.7 million.
He said Rasheed from his confessional statement said he smartly collected the said car key from the complainant under the pretence of testing the car and criminally absconded with it to Ibadan, the Oyo State capital without the owner’s consent.
The prosecutor, however, pointed out that the car was recovered from the defendant in Ibadan and parked at the police headquarters, in Eleyele, Ibadan.
He said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 312 and 287 of the Penal Code.
