JUST-IN: CBN Deputy Gov, Ahmad Reportedly With DSS Over Fraud

The Department of State Security Service, DSS, has reportedly arrested the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Aisha Ahmad, over an alleged fraudulent acquisition of shares in Polaris Bank and Titan Bank (Union Bank).

Speaking on Sunday, DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya, in a session with Channels Television stated that he could not confirm or deny that Ahmad is in their custody or has been invited for questioning.

But reports making rounds reflect that Aisha, like the former CBN governor, Emefiele is also being interrogated on how $300 million was raised by Titan Bank to complete the acquisition of Union Bank in 2022.

Reacting to the development, Afunaya noted that it is normal for people to be invited for questioning during an investigation and those invitations are carried out within the ambit of the law.

Similarly, Ahmad’s former boss, Emefiele was arrested two months ago and has since then, been in DSS custody.

As a result, Emefiele was suspended as the governor of CBN on June 9.
