The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Usman Baba has guaranteed Nigerians of good security ahead of the 2023 general elections
He stated this at the opening of the annual conference of the Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officers and Strategic Communication Experts on Monday in Ibadan.
The annual conference themed “Strengthening Strategic Communication Towards Police Reforms, Security and Integrity of 2023 Election” was organized to equip Police image makers on matters relating to Elections Management, Law Enforcement, and Communications
Mr. Usman Baba represented by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the southwest, Mr. Babatunde Kokumo said the Programme became necessary considering the task ahead, during and after the 2023 general election
The IGP, in his speech, declared that public relations officers remain the image maker of the force, hence there is a need for them to be well-informed in order to communicate strategically while discharging their civic responsibility to the society.
He revealed that the training and retraining of the officers towards attaining hitch-free general elections would create a synergy among other security agencies, towards achieving a free, fair, and credible 2023 elections
Moreover, Alhaji Lai Mohammed represented by the director of production and documentation in the ministry, Mr. Ibidapo Okunnu said the program was appropriate as a necessary tool for achieving peace and security and also to reduce misinformation and fake news that could heat the polity.
Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi the force public relations officer said the conference would train officers who needed skills to deal with people, especially during the general elections.
Some Police image makers who distinguished themselves in the line of duty, including Oyo and Lagos, states PPRO, Adewale Osifeso, and Benjamin Hyundeyin were recognized with an award of excellence.
The program which began on Monday, the 12th with 37 Command Public Relations Officers covering the 36 States of the Federation including the FCT, Abuja, 17 Zonal Public Relations Officers, Liaison Officers of Police Formations, as well as the Staff Officers of the Force Public Relations Department will end on Thursday this week.
