2 Police Operatives Feared Dead, 3 Unconscious In Shiites Unprovoked Attack In Abuja

Two officers of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command have been confirmed dead while three others are currently unconscious following an unprovoked attack by members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, popularly known as ‘Shi’ites’.

The Pendulum Media learnt that the Islamic group, on Sunday launched an attack on some personnel of the Nigeria Police Force at Wuse Junction by traffic light.

SP Josephine Adeh, the Police Spokesperson who confirmed the incident in a statement said the group attacked the Police checkpoint “wielding machetes, improvised explosive devices (locally made bombs in bottles with kerosene), and knives” leading to the death of some officers.

The PPRO said several arrests have already been made in connection with the killings.

“While several arrests have been effected, the Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, condemns the unprovoked attack on Police officers.

He promised to bring those involved to book. The situation is presently under control and normalcy restored.

“Further development will be communicated in due course.”
